Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI's) which occurs as a result of unprotected sex (sex without a condom). In over 70% of cases those with chlamydia do not have any symptoms at all until it is too late and complications of the illness are apparent. The complications of chlamydia in men include enlarged testes and in women can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease – an infection of the womb and/or fallopian tubes.
We offer a totally discreet and confidential chlamydia testing service. The test involves sending a urine sample for laboratory analysis. If your test results are positive, treatment is readily available as a single tablet. Whilst treatment of chlamydia has an efficacy of over 95%, treatment of complications arising from chlamydia is considerably less effective.
If you are sexually active, health studies recommend that you have a chlamydia test either:
- Every time you change sexual partners, or
- Once every year whilst you are under 25
